Getting Started
How to log a meal
Learn how to log your meals and foods in Diablesse step by step.

How to log a meal

Logging a meal in Diablesse is quick and intuitive. Here's how:

1. Open the Diary

In the Diary tab (book icon), tap the + button in the top-right corner.

2. Enter your blood glucose (optional)

If you measured your glucose before the meal, enter the value. This allows the bolus calculator to work correctly.

3. Search for foods

In the search field, type the name of the food.

Tip: You can type partial words — "whole wheat bread" finds "Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread".

4. Select the portion

Choose the unit and quantity you consumed. You can adjust portions precisely.

5. Add more foods

Repeat the process for each food in the meal. All items are listed with the total carbs and calories.

6. Calculate the bolus (optional)

If the bolus calculator is active in your profile, tap Calculate Bolus to get a dose suggestion.

7. Save the meal

Tap Save to log it. The meal will appear in your Diary with date and time.

How to use the Favorite Foods list

The favorite foods list was created to speed up filling in your diary. By favoriting the foods you consume most often, they will appear highlighted on the meal screen, so you don't need to search for them every time.

How to add a food to favorites

  1. Go to the Favorites screen
In the bottom bar of the app, tap the Favorites icon (⭐).
  2. Add a new favorite
Tap the + (plus) button in the corner of the screen.
  3. Search for the food
Type the food name in the search field. The app searches the food database (already adapted to the language selected in settings).
  4. Select the food
Tap the correct result. The food will be automatically saved to your favorites list.

Where favorite foods appear

When adding a new diary entry (meal or snack), favorite foods are pre-displayed at the top of the food selection screen. This lets you add them quickly without searching again.

Managing your favorites list

ActionHow to do it
Remove a favoriteOn the Favorites screen, swipe the item or tap the edit (pencil) icon then the delete symbol
Reorder the listTap Edit and drag items by the handle (☰) to set your preferred order
View all favoritesAccess the Favorites screen at any time to see your full list

Practical example

If you usually eat rice, beans, chicken, and salad for lunch:

  1. Add each of these foods to favorites once
  2. When logging a new meal, all of them appear at the top of the list
  3. Just select what you ate — no need to search

💡 Tip: Keep between 10 and 20 favorite foods to avoid cluttering the list while still including your most frequent items. You can edit the list whenever your eating habits change.

⚠️ Note: Favorite foods are linked to your profile. When switching devices or reinstalling the app, your list will be restored if you're logged into the same account.

Hide fields when adding a diary entry
Customize which fields appear when adding a new entry

How to customize diary entry fields in Diablesse

To make filling in your diary faster and more focused, you can hide fields that are not relevant to your daily routine. This way, when adding a new entry, you only see the information that actually matters to you.

Accessing the customization

Go to Settings in the main menu and select Entry Fields.

How it works

In the Entry Fields screen, you'll see a list of all available fields for diary entries (such as glucose, carbs, insulin, medications, notes, etc.).

For each field, you can:

  • Keep active — the field will appear on the entry screen
  • Uncheck/hide — the field will be removed from the entry screen, simplifying the form

Practical example

If you...You can hide fields like...
Don't use insulinBolus, basal
Don't count carbsCarbohydrates
Don't take medications at entry timeMedications
Only want to log glucose and notesAll other fields

Saving changes

After checking or unchecking the desired fields, tap Save (if available). Changes are applied immediately to the new entry screen.

💡 Tip: You can reactivate any field at any time by coming back to this screen. Customization does not delete old data — it only redefines which fields appear for new entries.

Bolus Calculator
Understand how the bolus calculator works and how to configure it correctly.

Bolus Calculator

Diablesse's bolus calculator uses a clinically established formula to suggest mealtime insulin doses.

Formula used

The calculation is split into two parts:

Meal bolus:

Total meal carbs ÷ Insulin-to-carb ratio

Correction bolus:

(Current glucose − Target glucose) ÷ Sensitivity factor − IOB (insulin on board)

The total bolus is the sum of both, always rounded down (floor) for safety.

How to configure

Go to Settings → Profile → Bolus Calculator and enter:

  • Insulin-to-carb ratio — how many grams of carbs 1 unit of insulin covers (e.g. 15)
  • Sensitivity factor — how many mg/dL 1 unit of insulin lowers blood glucose (e.g. 50)
  • Minimum and maximum target glucose — your desired glucose range (e.g. 80–170 mg/dL)
  • Insulin duration — how many hours your rapid-acting insulin lasts (e.g. 4h)
  • Maximum bolus — safety limit for the suggestion

Insulin on board (IOB)

IOB is calculated automatically based on your last logged bolus and the configured insulin duration. It is only subtracted from the correction bolus, never from the meal bolus.

Important disclaimer

The calculator provides only a suggestion based on your settings. Always confirm with your doctor or diabetes educator before adjusting doses.

Estimated HbA1c
Estimated HbA1c

Estimated HbA1c: what it is and how to use it

The estimated HbA1c is a calculation automatically generated by the app based on the glucose readings you log in the diary. It provides an approximate view of your glucose control over the past weeks.

How it is calculated

The app uses the average of your logged glucose readings and applies a standard formula to estimate the equivalent glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) value.

🔍 Important: The result is an estimate, not a lab test.

Important limitations

The accuracy of the estimated HbA1c depends directly on the quality of your records:

FactorImpact on estimate
Frequency of measurementsThe more measurements per day, the more reliable
Distribution of timesMeasuring only when fasting can skew the average
Consistency of recordsDays without entries create gaps in the calculation

⚠️ The more complete and frequent your diary is, the closer the estimate tends to be to reality. However, it never replaces a laboratory blood test.

Reference values

Estimated HbA1cInterpretation
Below 7%Usually the goal for most people with diabetes, per clinical guidelines
Above 7%May indicate need to review the treatment plan

💡 Consult your doctor to know what the individualized goal is for your case.

How to use this feature

Good for:

  • Tracking trends between appointments
  • Seeing if changes in routine or medication are having an effect
  • Getting an overview of your glucose control

Not suitable for:

  • Diagnosing diabetes
  • Adjusting medications without medical guidance
  • Replacing a laboratory HbA1c test

🧪 Recommendation: Continue having your lab HbA1c test every 3 months (or as directed by your doctor). Use the app's estimated HbA1c as a continuous thermometer between tests.

⚠️ Important disclaimer: The estimated HbA1c is provided for monitoring and awareness purposes only. It does not replace medical evaluation. Any decision about adjusting medications, diet, or insulin must be made exclusively with guidance from your doctor or healthcare team.
